Sustainable Community Living Workshop
In line with the vision of MCF on Swacch Faridabad Campaign and to promote the importance and need of sustainable living, Dr. OP Bhalla Foundation in association with Department Of Computer Science And Technology, Manav Rachna University, organized ‘Sustainable Community Living’ at Manav Rachna International School Charmwood. A workshop to create awareness and understanding about the concept of ‘Sustainability’ that involves building a sustainable community for the improvement of society. The main goal of today’s event was to increase sustainable living in Faridabad with the help of capacity building program on ‘Waste Management.’
The event included workshops by Ms. Aparna Kale and Eco-Club and a parallel workshop for kids on Sustainable practices and Calligraphy followed by a Panel Discussion.
Ms.Kale held hands on workshop teaching how to Grow Micro greens and make Seed Bombs at home. As more and more urban population are losing touch with farming techniques and are deep rooted in consumerist tendencies, this workshop encouraged them to grow and nuture their own food.
Eco Club Faridabad educated the audience on Home Composting and Waste Segregation. A live demonstration took place on identifying and segregating dry, wet and hazardous waste. They shared their experience of collective community effort in making dry leaves compost and installing solar panels.
A parallel workshop was conducted by Mr. Ankur Sharan of Daksh Foundation for the school students on Sustainable practices on saving water and electricity, feeding animals along with Calligraphy and the importance of reading and writing to lessen dependence on gadgets.
The event’s highlight was the Panel Discussion, in which esteemed Panelist and audience members openly interacted and shared experiences and tips on various aspects of sustainable development in a society like Segregation of Dry and Wet Waste, Ground Water Recharge, Adoption of Solar energy in Households and Eco Bricks. The event planted seeds of change and sustainability among these stakeholders. RWA representatives took an oath on adopting these practices in their daily life.
The program was attended Dr NC Wadhwa, Director General, MREI and Dr.MM Kathuria, Trustee, MREI, Dr.Sanyogita Sharma (Director, MRISs) and Dr.Suchitra Bhattacharya (Principal, MRIS Charmwood) welcomed the guests and speakers of the day – Mr. Arun Malik Executive Director India Hub, QuEST, Dr.Kavita Malik, Director, Learning Institute for Style and Arts, Ms.Aparna Kale (Sustainable Lifestyle Leader), Mr.Arun Gupta (Convener, Paudha Bank), Mr.Ankur Sharan (COO, Daksh Foundation) and members of the Eco-Club – Ms.Neeta Gupta, Ms.Mamta Srivastava, Ms.Pallavi Sachan, Ms.Shalini Agarwal and Dr.Kamna Bakshi.
Some of the dignitaries present were Sh.Jitender Bhadana (Sec-21 Ward Councillor), Sh.Ratan Lal (Sec-18 Ward Councillor), Sh.Vinod Gupta (Faridabad BJP Spokesperson), Smt.Priyanka Gupta (MCF Master Trainer) and Smt.Parvin Joshi (Vice-President, BJP Haryana Women Cell), Representatives from Surajkund Badkhal Road belt participated in the program.
