Training of Trainers is essential to elevate the standard of sports in India

Manav Rachna Educational Institutions (MREI) have been extensively working towards cooperation and collaboration in Skill Development in support of our Hon’ble Prime Minister’s ‘Skill India’ movement.
Taking this further, Manav Rachna International University (MRIU) is conducting a week-long training program for Sports Trainers. This program is being conducted with the support of Sports, Physical Education, Fitness & Leisure Skill Council (SPEFL-SC). It is noteworthy that National Skill Development Corporation and Sports, Physical Education, Fitness & Leisure Skill Council (SPEFL-SC) had signed an MOU with MRIU last week as the Training Partner for proving Skill development courses.
SPEFL-SC, is a sports skill development council funded by the Government of India through National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) and is primarily engaged in the domain of skill development for the Sports, Physical Education, Fitness & Leisure Industry Sector, MRIU in association with SPEFL-SC will conduct research, develop training course curriculum, training modules, training the trainers, assessment and certification of trainers and students. This first teacher training program (TOT) being conducted from 23rd-30th May 2016 jointly with SPEFL-SC is a step in this direction.
Wing Cdr Satish Aparajit, CEO Sports Sector Skill Council was the Chief Guest for the inaugural session. He said: “Trainers build players. The Hon’ble PM’s Skill India mission envisages the creation of 43 lakh trainers by 2022. The country is in a dire need of skilled sports trainers. In such a situation, training programs such as these are the need of the hour”.
Mr. Rajpal Singh, Director-Skill Development (International) and Sports & Youth Affairs was also present on the occasion. Mr. Singh said: “Even today, sports are regarded as extra-curricular activities. However, this is a completely separate subject and need the attention as it deserves as per the ambitious plan laid down”.
Dr. N C Wadhwa, VC-MRIU and Dr. G L Khanna, Dean, Faculty of Applied Science, MRIU also urged the trainers to use this training program to their benefit and contribute to the country’s Skill movement.
