Manav Rachna and Association of Indian Universities to organize World University Shooting Championship in 2024 under the aegis of FISU- International University Sport.
Setting precedents, Manav Rachna International Institute of Research and Studies (MRIIRS) has signed an MOU with the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) to organise the World University Shooting Championship in the year 2024 under the aegis of FISU- International University Sport. It is a matter of great pride that Manav Rachna has been chosen to host this most prestigious championship (that enjoys the next to Olympics stature!).
The MoU was signed in the presence of Col. Dr. G. Thiruvasagam, President-AIU; Dr. (Mrs.) Pankaj Mittal, Secretary General-AIU; Dr. Baljit Singh Sekhon, Joint Secretary (YA & Sports) along with Dr. Sanjay Srivastava , MD, Manav Rachna Educational Institutions; Mr. R K Arora, Registrar, MRIIRS; Mr. Sarkar Talwar, Director Sports-MREI and Mr. Agam Talwar.
The foundation of this project was laid in the year 2019, when Dr. Amit Bhalla , Vice President, Manav Rachna Educational Institutions along with Dr. Baljit Singh Sekhon, Joint Secretary (YA & Sports AIU) visited the FISU headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland to take part in the bidding for the championship to be held in 2024. They were accompanied by the Khel Ratna awardee, ace shooter Ronjan Sodhi and Agam Talwar.
The bid was presented to the FISU authorities, by various countries from all over the World, but AIU along with Manav Rachna International Institute of Research and Studies outshined the others and was rewarded with the attribution of organising this world-class event at Delhi in 2024.
