Workshop on ‘Structural Assessment and Urban Resilience’
Workshop on “Structural Assessment and Urban Resilience” organized by Department of Civil Engineering, FET, MRIIRS was highly successful. More than 50 students participated in the workshop including participants from ‘Haryana Police Housing Corporation’, ‘Panchayati Raj’ and other Private Universities. Inaugurated by Dr. N.C. Wadhwa, VC, MRIIRS, the workshop included discussions on recommendations for repair and rehabilitation with state-of-the-art repair materials and implementation techniques for distressed RC structures.
The workshop comprised 6 sessions including hands-on training on Non-Destructive Equipments and a Quiz related to the subject. The presentations covered various case studies along with discussions on hazard prone areas of the Indian region specifically. Multi disaster resilience and Rapid Visual Screening were discussed by Sunita Bansal followed by Retrofitting and Rehabilitation techniques of Existing Structures by Dr. J. Bhattacharjee.
Dr. Beena Anand from Central Soil and Material Research Station, New Delhi conducted a session on durability aspects of concrete. Mr. Mudit Mishra discussed quality control and quality assurance along with its significance as the structures age and deteriorate with time.
A Session was taken up by Dr. Chandan Ghosh from National Institute of Disaster Management, New Delhi. He discussed Performance criteria for built up facilities against earthquake which made the participants quite inquisitive and his presentation also included some videos of live earthquakes as simulated in Japan. He also showed certain real world common mistakes committed by architects and designers which can be detrimental during an earthquake.
The Hands-on training on Non-Destructive Equipments was given by the well-known consultants from Cortex Construction Solutions Pvt Ltd. They exhibited certain latest and expensive equipments being used for structural assessment of existing structures.
The valedictory address was proposed by Dr. M. K. Soni, PVC, MRIIRS and Dr. Krishna Kant, ED & Dean, FET, MRIIRS followed by award felicitation ceremony.
