Mechanical Engineering offers a broad range of career options/gaining knowledge to play a pivotal role in manufacturing toys, refrigerators, cars, engines, airplanes, and space ships. The core courses include courses like “Engineering Mechanics” where a student learns and applies the principles required to solve complex mechanics of engineering problems with basic prerequisite knowledge of math and physics. “Mechanics of Materials” will deal with solid objects subjected to stresses and strains and predict the response of engineering structures to uniform and variable loading. Further, the topics covered analyze the vulnerability of such structures or machine components failure predictions. “Material Science” equips a student with the knowledge of the properties and behavior of the material that goes into making a product or a machine, from ferrous to non-ferrous alloys, ceramics, refractory, abrasive and adhesive materials to intelligent materials. “Manufacturing Processes” deals with the fabrication process/forming processes of the product using casting, forging, welding, extrusion, machining, and various sheet metal operations with “Manufacturing Technology” as a course offering the knowledge of the machine tools, cutting tools and the mechanisms of the machines involved in manufacturing processes. “Theory of Machines” deals with the study of relative motions between various elements of the machines and various forces and couples acting on them. “Machine Design” involves the plan, construction, and analysis of a machine element or a plant considering the various load, critical elements, mode of failure, and the materials used. “Fluid Mechanics” helps the students gain knowledge in studying the behavior of the fluids (gas, plasma, and liquids) under various forces and different atmospheric conditions and thereby selecting a desirable fluid for a particular application, and “Fluid Machines” deals with fluid power systems or machines capable of moving heavier loads as well as greater mechanical forces. “Thermal Engineering” lays down the foundation of heat transfer and energy/work while designing a system taking into consideration the fundamental laws of “Thermodynamics,” heat loss, and energy produced in all industries, from power to nuclear energy to “Refrigeration System.”
