The Centre of Excellence on Alternative Dispute Resolution (CADR), School of Law, MRU organized a webinar on Relevance of the New Mediation Bill. 

The Guest Speaker for the session, Ms. Sakshi Vijay, Assistant Professor at Jindal Global Law School is an ILS Pune graduate who did her Masters in International Disputes Resolutions from the University of Melbourne, Australia. 

Ms. Sakshi is an accredited mediator and Joint Secretary of Maadhyam, Council for Conflict Resolution. She has received training for mediator in Australia and Tribunal Secretary in Hong Kong. She recently presented the amendments in the Mediation Bill, 2021 before the Parliamentary Committee at the Rajya Sabha. Prof. Versha Vahini, Associate Dean, School of Law welcomed the guest speaker for the talk. 

During the talk, she discussed the background and importance of the new mediation bill and shared that the bill was introduced in Rajya Sabha on December 20, 2021 seeking to promote mediation (including online mediation) and provide enforcement of settlement agreements resulting from mediation. Key features of the Bill that were discussed at the talk included applicability, pre-litigation mediation, disputes not fit for mediation, mediation process, mediators, mediation council of India, mediated settlement agreement, community mediation and interface with other laws.

Following an engaging hour-long discussion and question-answer session, Prof. S.K. Bose – Associate Professor, School of Law closed the session by presenting the vote of thanks to Ms. Vijay.
