Webinar on ‘Green Concrete: Need or Alternative’
The Department of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FET), in association with J. K. Cement Limited organized a webinar on ‘Green Concrete: Need or Alternative’ on the occasion of World Environment Day 2021.
The speaker for the event was Mr. Ratan Kumar Jha, Zonal Head – North, Customer Technical Services, J. K. Cement Ltd. He had completed B.E. in Civil Engineering from Bengaluru University, Karnataka in 1992. He worked as a Project Engineer in Hindon River Mills Ltd. from 1992 to 1995. He had been honored by the PHD Chamber of Commerce (Chandigarh) for his work on the Sustainable Development of Concrete Construction. He is also a Lifetime Member of the Indian Concrete Institute (ICI) and Nodal Executive Member of the Cement Manufacturer Association (CMA).
The total number of the participants in the webinar was around 45, including the students of MRIIRS and other national universities such as Sanjivani College of Engineering (Maharashtra), Dr. Mahalingam College of Engineering and Technology (Tamil Nadu), Shiv Nadar University (Uttar Pradesh), SGT University (Gurugram), and Carmel College of Engineering and Technology (Kerala). The audience also included industry professionals from J. K. Cement Limited.
The talk started with a formal inaugural address delivered by Mr. Yaman Hooda, Assistant Professor, Department of Civil Engineering. The welcome address to Mr. Ratan Kumar Jha was delivered by Dr. Sunita Bansal, Prof and HoD, Department of Civil Engineering. Mr. Jha started his talk by giving a brief introduction to Green Concrete and proceeded to explain the depth of the topic thereon. The highlights of his talk included various partial replacement options for cement and fine aggregates, the usage of Construction and Demolition (C&D) Waste into concrete, advantages and application areas of Green Concrete in Civil Engineering, and usage of 3R’s – Reuse, Recycle, and Reduce in Concrete Technology. After his informative delivery, the webinar also witnessed an interactive Q/A session, showcasing how the information shared in the talk can be used in various research projects by both B. Tech and M. Tech students. The session was concluded by a “Vote of Thanks” to Mr. Jha delivered by Dr. Sunita Bansal. A special acknowledgment was also given to the faculty coordinators: Dr. Anjali Gupta and Mr. Yaman Hooda, and Student Coordinators: Mr. Shivam Sibbal and Mr. Animesh Yadav.
