Visit to the Delhi International Arbitration Centre
Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) is a clinical subject offered to the third-year law students, of the five-year law course. To expose the students to the workings of an arbitration centre, the Centre for Excellence on Alternative Dispute Resolution (CADR) arranged a field visit to the Delhi International Arbitration Centre (DIAC), which is annexed to the Delhi High Court.
Under the supervision of Ms. Chaitali Wadhwa and Ms. Pooja Trehan, Faculty of Law, Manav Rachna University, along with fourteen third-year law students visited the DIAC recently.
DIAC offers state-of-the-art facilities for the conduct of arbitrations. Located within the premises of Delhi High Court, the Centre has nine hearing rooms with varying seating capacity, simultaneous recording of live proceedings, dedicated stenographers and support staff.
The students also had the opportunity of attending the arbitration proceedings in session, with the prior permission of the parties and the arbitrator.
They had an interactive question and answer session with the Coordinator of the Centre Ms Kaveri Baweja DJHS, and the additional coordinators – Mr Pranjal Aneja, Mr Nishant Garg and Ms Priyadarshini. Engagement with members of the DIAC secretariat helped bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical experience, and also gave an insight to the students about making a career in arbitration.
