Two Day Workshop on Health Monitoring of Structures
Department of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Engineering and Technology, MRIIRS organized a 2-day workshop on “Health Monitoring of Structures” recently. The workshop was organized under the programme “INNOSKLL 2018” to pay a soulful homage and tribute to the legendary Dr. O.P Bhalla.
Mr. Aftab Alam, Assistant Professor coordinated and organized this workshop. The main objective of the workshop was to introduce the aspiring engineers with the conceptual as well as practical knowledge of Non-Destructive Techniques (NDT) employed for health monitoring of structures. The concept is widely applied to various forms of infrastructure including buildings, roads, highways etc. The NDT helps in performance evaluation of existing structures, monitoring of structures affected by external factors, assessment of post-earthquake structural integrity etc. It also helps in determining the properties of a material, component or system without causing any damage to the same.
The workshop began with a presentation on the concept behind these techniques and hands-on training was also given to the students using Schmidt hammer, Portable Ultrasonic Non-destructive Digital Indicating Tester (PUNDIT) and Profoscope (Rebar Locator).
All the students enthusiastically attended the workshop and gained significant knowledge about the NDT techniques.
