Third Public Lecture on ‘Data Protection’
Manav Rachna University (MRU) organized its Third Public Lecture on ‘Data Protection: Privacy in an international context and impacts on the education sector’ today. The speaker for the day was Ms. Suzanne Rab, English Barrister, International Mediator, Regulatory Policy Advisor, Professor of Commercial Law, and Published Author. Dr. Meenakshi Khurana, PVC, MRU; Mr. R.K Bajaj, Ex. Chief Commissioner, Income Tax, who is also our mentor and advisor, were present during the lecture.
Data Protection and GDPR were the hot topics of discussions today. Ms. Suzanne Rab discussed the data privacy in international context and ‘Data Privacy Framework for India’. She apprised the audience with the implications of Brexit, how GDPR is affecting organizations established outside EEA, and how it addresses specific needs of education sector. To the very third concern, she addressed one and all present and said, “You as students and faculty have the right to know what this organization holds for you”. She also discussed the ‘Equivalence Concept’.
She quoted on the behalf of organizations, “We have a responsibility to protect your information; If we can’t, we don’t deserve it”. Discussing the action areas in this context, she introduced core aims and objectives of GDPR. Pseudonomization, Personal Data and Sensitive Personal Data were extensively discussed upon. She said, “Consent to use personal data needs to be specified and informed”.
The lecture was highly informational and interactive with the highly motivated and interactive audience and speaker.
