Third Day of Faculty Development Programme on Pedagogical Developments
The third day of the Faculty Development Programme (FDP) being conducted by Dr. I.K. Bhat, VC, MRU and Dr. V.K. Mahna, ED-Academic Excellence, was replete with sessions on Cooperative & Collaborative Learning, Microsoft Excel, and Need for Innovation. In the session of Cooperative and Collaborative Learning, Dr. Bhat emphasized on the aspect of Stress Management through a group exercise. He said, “Knowledge is the social construct”. The exercise was a way to promote learning and to collaborate, communicate and create.
Dr. Bhat also conducted an extensive as well as interesting session on ‘Need for Innovation’. He said that this is an era of Digital Darwinism, and innovation is the result of creativity and commercialization. He also discussed the aspects of incremental innovation and disruptive innovation. He asked the teachers to charge up the students to innovate and create.
Another session was conducted by Dr. V.K. Mahna on Microsoft Excel wherein he shared some important shortcuts and formulas to work on Excel and be proficient with time.
Dr. Bhat shared some relevant skills to be inculcated in students as well as faculties: Learning, Innovation, Digital Literacy, Career & Life Skills. Addressing the faculty members, he said, “R & D must always play a primary and path finding role”. He continued, “Good teachers anticipate and plan ahead. We need to be innovators in the classroom.”
The three-day FDP equipped faculty members with the skills to create an active learning environment in the classroom besides encouraging students to innovate and create.
