STP on “Bio privilege and Sustainable Chemistry”
Department of chemistry, MRU organized a 5-days STP on “Bio privilege and Sustainable Chemistry”.
The event was formally opened by Prof. I. K. Bhat who addressed the gathering and emphasized on the philosophy of Manav Rachna University, its vision and endeavors undertaken to excel on the path of progress. He emphasized the role & importance of Chemistry in achieving sustainability goal developments. Prof. Varshney then introduced the guest speaker Prof A. K. Singh, IIT Bombay with a brief introduction.
Prof. Singh explained various aspects related to the demand of chemicals for various needs and how their imports and exports are governed. The second session was taken by the guest speaker Prof. (Dr.) Roli Parwar, DTU, Delhi who spoke about the necessity of electrospinning and its use in modifying the membrane for wound healing or some other purposes too. The next session was taken up by Prof. (Dr.) Noel Jacob Kaleekkal, NITC, Calicut, who emphasized the modification of membranes for water treatment.
Day 2 began with Dr. Ravindra’s (from IOCL R&D Centre Faridabad) Lecture on “Unified Laboratory Intelligence System: A sustainable approach for chemical research”. In the next session, Prof D.S. Rawat from University of Delhi was welcomed by Dr. V.V. Pathak to enlighten the participants with his valuable thoughts. He delivered the talk on “From conceptual design to a clinical candidate: Hybridization in medicinal chemistry and catalysis”.
Day 3 of the STP started with Dr. Vinod Kumar from Department of Chemistry, J. C. Bose University of Science and Technology, YMCA Faridabad, wherein he explained the principles of green and sustainable chemistry. He demonstrates ionic liquid induced of Rhodamine B dye from aqueous solutions as sustainable chemical technology. Next session was indeed full of learning in respect of chemistry lab practices, it started with a wonderful talk given by Dr. Sangeeta Pandita, University of Delhi who was welcomed by Dr. Megha Bansal.
