Sensitization programme on World Autism Awareness Day
Faculty of Education, Manav Rachna University organized ‘World Autism Awareness Day’ on April 10, 2018 to create awareness about autism and to foster the feeling of inclusion in community for Children with Special needs. The event was graced by Dr. Sanjay Srivastava, VC, MRU; (Prof) Meenakshi S Khurana PVC-MRU, Ms. Sanyogita Sharma (Director-Faculty of Education and MRIS) along with all the Esteemed Deans, Directors, Head of the Departments, faculty members and students from Faculty of Education and Law at Manav Rachna University.
The day was marked by the discussion on the early symptoms of Autism addressing the diverse needs of an autistic person. Children with special needs from Society for Advanced Studies in Rehabilitation (SASR) displayed their talents through a variety of performances including a spectacular dance presentation, a placard show, a short play and a musical performance.
Prof. Sanjay Srivastava emphasized the role a teacher can play in navigating the strengths of a special child. Ms. Sanyogita Sharma shared the inclusive approaches practised across Manav Rachna International Schools to include children with special needs.
Ms. Nitika Mendiratta, Director, SASR educated the audience about Autism being a developmental disorder and not an illness. The program culminated at a positive note of appreciation for perseverance and resilience shown by specially abled children by signing a pledge note.
Dr. Rashee Singh (Associate Professor-Education) and Ms. Ridhi Khanna (Assistant Professor-Education) coordinated the entire event on behalf of Faculty of Education.
