Seminar On Women Empowerment
Seminar on ‘Women’s Empowerment’ as part of ‘Janhit Jagran—Jitne suraj utne savere’, a social initiative being undertaken by the Dainik Jagran Group was facilitated by Department of Students Welfare on 21st January 2015 in A block Auditorium from 11 am to 12.30 pm.
Around 300 students from FCH, FMeS, FCA & FMS along with 8 faculty members had an interactive session on one of the Sath sarohar. This new campaign is being conducted by Dainik Jagran to report and create awareness on a whole host of issues including water conservation, eradication of poverty, managing population, healthy society and so on. ‘Women’s Empowerment’ one of the key issues of the campaign, was taken up at the symposium to invite students to be an active participant in the cause and make a difference to society at large. Mr.Nitendra Srivastava, General Manager, Dainik Jagran, in his introductory speech and presentation, explained the newspaper’s role behind the launch of Janhit Jagran, adding, “the initiative has been launched to inspire people to come forward with their ideas and bring about societal upliftment”.
Speaking on the occasion, Ms Debjani Khan, Program Manager, Plan International, recounted her own experiences of working towards ‘Women’s Empowerment’ and the hurdles she and her team mates faced.
Mr. Brij Bihari, Chief Editor, Dainik Jagran & Prof I.K. Kilam, Dean of Students Welfare, MRIU, were also present in the seminar.The session was especially meaningful and relevant in the light of Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi’s call for the ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ campaign being organized on January 22 & 23, 2015, where the right to a woman’s education is the first step towards their empowerment and enlightenment
