Seminar on Gandhian Perspective of Journalism at Manav Rachna International University
The Faculty of Media Studies and Humanities (FMeH), in association with Gandhi Smriti and Darshan Samiti, organized a seminar on ‘Gandhian Perspective of Journalism’ in the campus. The seminar dwelt on Mahatma Gandhi’s philosophy, his contribution to journalism and how he used the pen to lead a mass movement against the British rule.
Mr Veda Vyas Kundu of the Gandhi Smriti and Darshan Samiti, while delivering the keynote address, spoke about the increasing level of intolerance in the society and the shrinking space for exchange of ideas. He called for shunning of ‘Barking Journalism’ and popularising ‘non-violent’ communication to promote peace and amity.
Mr Ramesh Chandra Sharma, of the Gandhi Smriti and Darshan Samiti, Mr R K Jain of Apar Group of Institutions and Mr Hitesh Chandel, Director of Defined Values Consultants, also shared their ideas on Gandhiji’s perspective on journalism and interacted with students of B.A. JMC and M.A. JMC.
The other highlights of the day-long event were presentations by three students—Parishkrit Saxena, Samarth Mehta and Kuldeep—on the Mahatma Gandhi’s journey of life and renditions of his favourite bhajans by Bhoomi, Arya and Divya. The event was graced by Dr N C Wadhwa, Vice-Chancellor, MRIU and Dr Neemo Dhar, Dean, FMeH and Director, Radio Manav Rachna.
