‘Regard Before You Discard’ competition on the occasion of World Environment Day
On the occasion of World Environment Day, 5th June 2021, the Department of Journalism & Mass Communication, FMeH organized an event titled ‘Regard Before You Discard”. The competition aimed to create usable products out of waste material. In today’s scenario, with the increasing amount of waste produced, it is important to create awareness about the conservation of resources and sustainable development. The activity helped the students to explore their creative style and sensitize them towards our natural habitat. The students were asked to create a constructive product of their choice out of recycled waste followed by a brief presentation.
Dr. Maithili Ganjoo, Dean, FMeH addressed the participants highlighting the importance of preservation & environmental sustainability. She motivated them to bring a positive change in society by effectively utilizing our resources. The competition was judged on the parameters of the idea, creativity, and presentation. The activity was judged by Dr. Geeta Ramesh Singh Thakur, Professor & Head, Department of Education and Humanities; Head, Manav Rachna Centre for Peace and Sustainability Head, Centre for Academic Leadership.
Students from various departments across MRIIRS participated and presented their innovations which they made from waste material. It included a pen stand, wall hanging, cards, paper, etc. Indeed, the efforts of all students were commendable. Such activities allow students to enhance their innovation and presentation skills.
The first position was bagged by Ms. Tanisha Kapoor of the Department of English, FMeH for creating handmade paper using old newspapers. The second position was secured by Ms. Prerna Sharma of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, FMeH for making a beautiful pop-up card using a matchbox. The third position was secured by Mr. Siddhant Saxena of the Department of Computer Applications, FET. He made a creative pen stand with used plastic bottles. Prof (Dr) Aman Vats (HoD, J & MC) congratulated the students for their effort and motivated them to contribute towards a greener tomorrow.
It was a fun-filled and informative activity for the students. The event was conducted by Ms. Poonji Sharma, Ms. Mauli Kulshreshtha, Ms. Riya Gupta, and Ms. Ankita Bharti under the guidance of Dr. Maithili Ganjoo, Dean FMeH.
