Press Release: Manav Rachna Students Won National Vishwakarma Award
Students from the Department of Nutrition & Dietetics at the Faculty of Applied Sciences, Manav Rachna International Institute of Research and Studies (MRIIRS) have developed “Naturoplast” to minimize the ill effects of plastic packaging.
The start-up ‘Naturoplast’ has won the third prize at the most coveted AICTE-ECI-ISTE National ChhatraVishwakarma Awards 2018 by presenting an innovative solution/prototype under the theme of ‘Empowerment of Villages through technology’.
1600 teams across India participated in the convention, out of which 114 teams made it to the semi-finals. Only 18 teams made to the finals. Manav Rachna’s team comprising Mandeep Gulati,M.Sc.Nutrition & Dietetics and Shashwat Malik, B Tech Mechanical under the mentorship of Ms. Lakhvinder Kaur is the only team from a university in North India that made it to the prestigious convention.
Naturoplast aims to minimize pollution and the ill effects of plastic packaging. It also takes into consideration the use of underutilized natural resources so as to prevent wastage. The product ‘Nanowrap’is made from green banana. This wrap has great value, both in the social and environmental system. It is bio-degradable, ecofriendly, water soluble, anti-microbial, low cost and is a great initiative towards Swachh Bharat.
