Panel Discussion on “Green Home Ideas”
Clan Forest Rhinos under Manav Rachna Life Skills Programme celebrated Earth Day by organizing a Panel Discussion “Green Home Ideas” in the presence of Dr. M.K. Soni, Pro VC, MRIIRS; Mr. R.K. Arora, Registrar, MRIIRS; Dr. Sangeeta Banga, Dean Students Welfare, MRU and Clan Chief-Forest Rhinos; Ms. Gurjeet Kaur Chawla, Associate Dean, Department of Students’ Welfare, MRIIRS; Ms. Charu Virmani, Associate Professor, CSE, FET, MRIIRS and Vice-Chief – Forest Rhinos, students and faculty members.
The panelists of the discussion comprised Mr. Ankur Vashisht, a student of CSE, FET, MRIIRS; Mr. Nitin Joseph, a student of FCA, MRIIRS; Mr. Sanjay, a student of Mech., MRU; and Mr. Mukesh Das, a student of Mech, MRU. Talking about the energy conservation, Mr. Ankur Vashisht said, “An ideal green home is one that would conserve natural resources, use all local materials, consume minimum water, optimise energy efficiency, generate less waste, recycle and provide a healthier space for occupants as compared to a conventional building”. Mr. Nitin Joseph brought the current energy efficiency practices to the limelight.
Mr. Sanjay talked about the new technologies being developed to complement current practices in creating greener structures. He said that by adopting greener practices, human beings can take maximum advantage of environmental and economic performance.
“A green construction method when integrated while designing and construction provides most significant benefits like reducing wastage of water, protect biodiversity, improves occupant productivity and hence improves quality of life”, Mr. Mukesh Das mentioned. All panelists enthusiastically discussed collaboration, competition, policies, regulation, etc. in the field of Green Homes.
Mr. R.K. Arora reiterated the role of Institutions such as Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), and the Association for Development and Research of Sustainable Habitats (ADaRSH), a joint initiative of Teri and the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy in analyzing buildings on the basis of design, energy efficiency and many more.
“A green home can save on things such as power and air-conditioning equipment. For example, a good design can reduce the use of air-conditioning. With these, green homes can be substantially less expensive,” articulated by Dr. M.K. Soni.
Topics like sustainable portfolio, distributed generation, grid-scale storage, vitality proficiency, micro grids, net metering were the discussed during the session.
