One Day Workshop on ” Innovative Practices in Civil
The Civil Engineering Society, FET, Manav Rachna International University in association with J.K. Cement Ltd. conducted a one-day workshop on “Innovative Practices in Civil Engineering” on March 11th 2016, Friday, in A-Block Auditorium from 11:30 am onwards. More than 400 students and faculty members attended the workshop.
The event began with an opening ceremony hosted by Mr. Siddhant Bhama and Ms. Akanksha Ahluwalia, both from the fourth semester. The Executive Director and Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Manav Rachna International University, Prof. (Dr.) M.K. Soni presided over the function. In his learned address, Dr. Soni expressed his thankful gesture to the Chief Guests, Retired Chief Engineer, CPWD – Mr. S.K. Dhawan, Dr. Chandan Ghosh, Head, Geo Hazard Risk Management Division, National Institute of Disaster Management along with the Zonal Head, Customer Technical Support Division, J.K. Cement LTD., Mr. R.K. Jha for their valuable presence and welcomed the guests with a plant sapling.
The Chief Guests inaugurated the function by lighting the lamp of knowledge along with all the guests and the convener of the workshop, Mr. Aasif Mujtaba. It was followed by Sarasvati Vandana sung by students of 4th and 6th semester in the spacious, well-decorated Auditorium. Further, Dr. B.K. Singh, Head, Department of Civil Engineering welcomed everyone on behalf of the faculty, staff and students of the Department of Civil Engineering. The auditorium was over- hauled by a beautiful group dance performed by the students of group “PANACHE”. In the first session, Dr. Chandan Ghosh enlightened the students about The Predictions & Early warnings of Earthquakes. He also discussed where to build up buildings when ground is not strong enough and what to build when buildings are not strong enough. He also discussed about the prediction of earthquakes by animals. After his lecture, Honorable Dr. B.K Singh discussed the concepts of Quality Assurance of Concrete. He talked about the role of good quality concrete in increasing the life span of structures and also highlighted the effect of corrosion on buildings. And then Mr. S.K. Dhawan was called upon the stage to discuss about the importance of Project Management and the skills required to deal with Project Management.
After his speech, Dr. B.K. Singh presented the memento to Dr. Chandan Ghosh & Mr. S.K. Dhawan. Everyone then proceeded for the refreshment outside the auditorium which was followed by a dance performance by Ms.Jyoti & Mr. Pranjal. The dance performance and the mouth watering refreshments upped the fun quotient of the workshop. Mr RK Jha, then addressed everyone about the Quality control in Concrete & Durability. He discussed various parameters like Inheritance & development of cement & concrete, and factors influencing durability of concrete and the great performance and environmental benefits of J.K. Super cement. Mr. Jha also gifted goodies to the students and gave them the opportunity to display their technical skills by asking them a set of 5 questions. Students who gave the correct answers were bestowed with special prizes. After his speech, he was presented the memento by Mr. Aasif Mujtaba, Convener of the workshop and the Civil Engineering Society. In the concluding session Ms. Sameeya Zargar, President of Civil Engineering Society was called upon to give the vote of thanks and appreciated the effort of the students of CES. Overall the workshop went awesome and ended with great pomp.
