One day workshop on climate change-issues & challenges
The department of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Manav Rachna International University organized a one day workshop on Climate Change-Issues and Challenges on 2nd April, 2015. Climate change is an important issue that must be addressed by all nations multi-laterally. It is certainly one of this century’s greatest destabilizing forces which undermines our global economy, and is already beginning to transform life on earth. If we don’t act now, climate change will rapidly alter the lands and waters we all depend upon for survival, leaving our children and grandchildren with a very different world.
The workshop started with lamp lighting ceremony followed Saraswati Vandana by Ms. Karish ma and Ms. Deepti. Dr.B.K.Singh, the Head of the department of Civil engineering then welcomed all the dignitaries, head of other departments, faculty members and the students to this workshop and gave an introductory note on the workshop theme. Dr. Sadiqa Abbas, the convener of this workshop then briefed all about the workshop theme and its importance and the events lined up for the day. Dr. M.K. Soni, ED & Dean, FET, then addressed all and appreciated the initiate taken up by the department owing for this noble cause. This was followed by a formal speech from the honorable Vice Chancellor of MRIU, Dr.N.C.Wadhwa. Dr.Wadhwa shared his experience on climate change and congratulated Dr.B.K.Singh for selecting such a noble theme which needed utmost concern of people across the globe.
The first technical sessions of day then began with a presentation by Dr.A.K.Nema, professor, department of Civil engineering, IIT Delhi. Dr. Nema through his presentation highlighted the global sensitivity on this issue; he correlated the rise in global temperature with rise in the cases of various vector borne diseases.
Dr.Gauhar Mahmmod, professor department of civil engineering, Jamia Millia Islamia then delivered the second technical session of the day and gave an idea about the associated impacts of climate change from the regional climatic conditions of India with a special reference to recent Uttarakhand disaster.
Mr.R.N.Malik, associate professor of department of Civil engineering, MRIU, then addressed the audience and shared his views over this important issue. Mr.Malik also emphasized on looking up on other issues for their triggering of climate change rather than emphasizing on CO2 as the only culprit. He emphasized on the need for a broader vision to fight with this issue on global scale.
Both the speakers were felicitated by bouquets and mementos at the end of technical session. At the end of the technical sessions, the vote of thanks was given by Mr.Aasif Mujtaba, assistant professor, department of civil engineering, MRIU and the co-convener of workshop. He thanked all the dignitaries, the speakers, faculty members and the students for the over-whelming response to this workshop which witnessed the active participation of More than 300 students.
