The School of Law, Manav Rachna University organised the 1^st Manav Rachna Law & Technology National Moot Court Competition on April 28 and 29, 2022. The event saw the participation of 12 teams, and over 25 participants, from law schools across India. The first edition of the moot was held online. The purpose of the moot was to stimulate the study of Law and Technology. The participants were expected to interpret the statutory provisions in light of the legal concerns arising from the ongoing WhatsApp and Facebook privacy policies. The School of Law believes that this Moot will provide future lawyers a platform to explore and understand the relationship of the internet with the current political, cultural, and social environment. The judges for the event were practicing advocates and academicians from reputed colleges.

The finalists for the competition were Lloyd Law School and Symbiosis Pune. The matchup lasted for over two hours where teams were arguing on issues of issues of privacy, freedom of speech, and legalities of the IT Ethics Rules. The esteemed bench for the final rounds constituted of –

• Justice Rajesh Tandon, Retd. Judge, Uttarakhand HC
• Raushan Tara Jaswal, Asst Prof Jindal Global Law School, and alumna of Cambridge University

The judges asked participants questions on maintainability of the petition, issues of jurisdiction, and relevance of landmark judgements to the given set of facts.

After two days of extensive arguing and well-presented pleadings, the results are as follows –

• Best Memorial (Petitioner) – Amity University, Manesar
  • Best Memorial (Respondent) – Amity University, Manesar
  • Best speaker – Shubnavi Shivhare, Delhi Metropolitan Education
  • Runner’s Up – Lloyd Law School
  • Winners – Symbiosis, Pune
