National Film Festival and Conference on Cinema and Television 2021 (Day 1)
Department of Journalism and Mass Communication organized ‘Montage 2K21’, a two day National Film Festival and Conference on Cinema and Television.
Inaugural speech was given by Prof. (Dr.) Sanjay Srivastava, Vice-Chancellor, MRIIRS. In his address, he talked about the importance of visual media in today’s setup and highlighted the vision and mission of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, FMeH. Prof K G Suresh, Vice-chancellor, Makhanlal Chaturvedi University, which is the knowledge partner of Montage 2K21, addressed the gathering on how films are a medium to express along with how television serials have become an integral part of the Indian household. The session further was preceded by Dr. Ankuran Dutta, Managing Trustee, Dr. Anamika Ray Memorial Trust. He talked about research in films and shared his views on the need of having a standalone institute of film studies.
Master class on Documentary forms and Practices was conducted by Dr. Aparna, Professor at University of California. She focused on observational cinema which has a close affinity with anthropological film. Observational film makers are observers and have a deep understanding of the things around.
The prestigious jury panel of the film screening comprised of Prof. Aditya Seth, President, Indian Documentary Producers’ Association, Dr. Rohit Pawar, Assistant Professor, Department of Mass Communication and Extension, SVT College of Home Science, SNDT University, Santa Cruz West, Mumbai and Ms. Shikha Sharma. Each Jury member talked about the importance of film and were curious to watch and judge the films made by the budding filmmakers.
