Ms. Hanu Bhardwaj and Dr. Jyoti Pruthi attended an FDP organized by Accenture at Maharaja Surajmal Institute of Technology, New Delhi. In the dynamic environment of software development, the emerging need is to move from the ‘Voice of the Customer’ to the ‘Voice of the Machine’ in the shortest time. Keeping this in mind, FDP focused on ‘New Paradigms in Software Engineering,’ in terms of the software industry’s adoption of the agile approach to software development.
The first session was addressed by Mr. Jeffson Dsouza, Global Capability Agile lead & Associate Director, Accenture. He shared his knowledge and over 15 years experience of handling projects developed using Agile Methodology. He discussed the standard and Accenture specific agile framework. The main focus of FDP was around Scrum and Mr. Jeffson explained the concepts with the help of interactive activities under ‘Building Airplanes’ game. He also advised the professors to guide and motivate students to incorporate Agile methodology in projects so that the students become industry-ready and the gap between industry and academia can be reduced.
The next session was conducted by Mr. Parvinder Singh, Scrum Master from Accenture. He explained the difference between Waterfall Model and Agile Model by making the participant experience the activity of ‘Coins Flipping’. He also highlighted the distributed agile and importance of collaboration in agile development environment.
In the last session, the participant experienced how the people work in scrum team. The participants wrote some user stories and estimated the time and efforts needed to complete the task through ‘Poker Game’. In conclusion, Mr. Jeffson Dsouza shared information about Agile Courses and Certifications. He also gave the live demo of Agile Project Management Tool – ‘JIRA’ and shared some of the open source Agile tools.
Faculty members across the country participated in the FDP. It was overall a great learning experience and exposure to the latest industry trends.
