Given how the professional courses for students usually start with peer pressure, and they have little to no say in what they want to pursue, there is a considerable scope of change in the professional stream after completion of UG courses—taking this scenario in the stream of B. Tech in civil engineering, where the vast majority of students ponder between M. Tech or MBA after they complete B.Tech. So which criteria decide one’s choice towards pursuing higher education following the scheme? A choice between M. Tech or MBA?

As per sources, India has the most significant number of engineers and the largest number of engineering education institutes and infrastructure globally. As of 2021, India annually produces five lakh engineering graduates. B. Tech is a skill and data-oriented course focused mainly on application engineering. It deals with those aspects of science that are technical. It emphasizes the principles of engineering and technology. There indeed are many scopes that entail the further pursuance of this career. MBA after engineering is also a sought-after course after B. Tech. For students who want to settle abroad, MBA is a safer option and a worldwide recognized degree, given the choice that one must be proficient enough in the course of study. This is indeed an option to shift from technical or managerial proceeds. The MBA hiring companies overweigh the Civil Engineering core companies, giving a more manageable option in starting a professional career than engineering graduates. MBA Graduates usually start from a higher pay range than B—tech graduates.

Nonetheless, engineering graduates’ scope of climbing up the organizational workforce is also a massive win for the stream; getting a degree of MBA after B. Tech ensures a professional with technical and team-leading quality, a quality sought after. Considering pursuing MBA after completing Civil Engineering gives a boom in the construction industry. The options available include MBA in Construction Management and Project Management. The advancements in technology digitally transform the management of an on-site project with the help of software applications available. After completing a MBA from either of the two options available, a massive basket of opportunities is available in both Government and Private sectors worldwide. Also, it was observed that a good number of research–funded projects and consultants had been attracted to the organization, which has the resources available in both the disciplines of civil engineering and construction management.  

So, Is an MBA a good option after completing a B. Tech in civil engineering? The answer is “MAYBE.” It depends hugely on one’s satisfaction with their course of education. These two streams are not comparable, but each is equally great and produces successful results to hold their own. Each has its tremendous scope of opportunities if pursued further and with sincerity. So CHOOSE WISELY, for there is no easy road for any study, yet it is a smooth ride if hard work, dedication, and perseverance are equally poured into anything.
