Expert Talk on “Opportunities in New Zealand for Civil Engineers”
Department of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FET), Manav Rachna International Institute of Research and Studies (MRIIRS), in association with Auckland University of Technology, New Zealand, organized an expert talk on “Opportunities in New Zealand for Civil Engineers” recently. The total number of participants in the event was 35 from UG and PG courses, along with the Department’s faculty members.
The eminent speaker for the event was Prof. John Tookey, Head of Department, Built Environment Engineering, Auckland University of Technology, New Zealand. Prof. Tookey started his talk by introducing the facilities of Civil Engineering in AUT, New Zealand. He mentioned that AUT is the second-largest university in New Zealand with over 250 study options and has a higher employability rate than other New Zealand Universities. The criteria for getting admission to AUT is that one has to clear the IELTS exam for direct enrollment. For admission under the articulation agreement with AUT University, students must complete two years in MRIIRS, and there should be no backlogs. Labs like Mechatronics, Construction Engineering, Architectural Engineering Laboratory, etc., are there on the AUT campus. He explained the facilities like 3D AutoCAD, Industrial Robots, Scanning Electron Microscopy, etc., and many more innovative technologies. He briefed about the subsets of the field, which mainly focus on the construction method, logistics, materials, waste minimization, and structural engineering facilities. He added that an Engineer needs to be keen on changing the world and be creative and capable of accepting change/ evolving work environments.
Students raised queries concerning Civil Engineering’s prospective technology, which Prof Tookey patiently answered.
