Lecture on ‘Scope for Mathematicians in field of Actuarial Sciences’
The Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Applied Sciences, Manav Rachna University organized an invited lecture on ‘Scope for Mathematicians in field of Actuarial Sciences’ which was attended by students of B.Sc. (H) & M.Sc. Mathematics and Faculty members of the department.
The guest speaker for the talk was Sh. Ashok Kumar Garg (Actuary) from General Insurance Corporation of India, he was accompanied by his colleague Mr. Praveen Kumar from General Insurance Corporation of India.
Mr. Garg commenced his talk with the basics of Actuarial Sciences. He explained the importance of mathematics and statistics in this profession. He mentioned that a sound knowledge of Mathematics and Statistics clubbed with strong data interpretation and good communication skills is a key for becoming a profound Actuary. Mr. Garg then elaborated the benefits of the Actuary profession as an all time need by various Life Insurance companies, Risk Management, as a self – employed etc. He engaged the students to understand the role of actuary by discussing real life situations.
Mr. Garg detailed the eligibility criteria, the course requirement of passing thirteen subjects with enrollment in only three at a time, total duration and fees structure for the course. He also motivated the students toward this new domain of jobs, the future scope of Actuarial Sciences and demand of Actuary in India and abroad.
The students discussed their queries and questions with the speaker and were satisfactorily answered by the guest speaker.
