The live session of Leadership talk by Dr. Nilesh Oak, Expert, Indian Civilization & History was conducted on 30th May 2020. Faculty members and Students of Manav Rachna University attended the session. The session was very informative and insightful for the audience.
It was an interesting talk by Dr. Nilesh Oak on how pragmatic approach and wisdom of Ancient India is relevant in pursuing innovations in the Modern world. Dr. Abhay Jere introduced Dr. Nilesh Oak as a Chemical Engineer who worked for GE in US for 16-17 years and then, left his job and went for research on ancient Indian Civilization and wrote a book on that. Based on his research work, Dr. Nilesh claims that the Indian civilization has history of 24000 years. He got the evidence from 300+ astronomical instances of Mahabharata and 700+ astronomical instances in Ramayana. From Saraswati river also, he got many links of Indian Civilization.
He gave example of the story where Queen Bishwalla got injured in battle and then Ashiwini Kumar came and performed surgery on her leg to fix the issue and then, she could go back to war. There is evidence of dental surgery in Sindhu Saraswati civilization for drilling and filling teeth in 5000 BC. In fact, discipline of surgery was introduced in Europe after 2 British people observed a plastic surgery of nose in Pune.
He shared, “Biggest motivation of astronomy was agriculture and commerce as travelling by ship was required for commercial purpose. If we didn’t know exact measurement, we would not know where we are. In I7500 BC, precise measurements of latitude of Nakhsatra happened. Also, precise measurements of longitude were carried out. Indian Astronomy also calculated earth’s obliquity angle as 23.5 degree with respect to orbital plane with lot of precision and derived its association with changes of seasons on earth.
The session concluded by Dr. Abhaay Jere on the note that all youngsters should get great insights about innovation from ancient Indian Civilization and should pursue the path of innovation.
