Invited Lecture on “Polymer Composites’’
An Invited lecture on Polymer Composites was organized by Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Applied Sciences, MRU. Dr.Sangeeta Baksi, Senior Scientist, Advanced Composites Programme of Technology, Information and Forecasting Assessment Council (TIFAC), DST, New Delhi delivered the lecture, which was attended by students of B.Sc. (H), M.Sc. (Chemistry) and faculty members of applied sciences.
Dr Sangeeta highlighted the perceptions of different aspects like Polymer composites, Matrices i.e, Thermoplastic and Thermosets and Reinforced Plastics. She also dealt with Fabrication of FRP by different methods and their applications in Automotive and Railway components, Fan Impellers, Fabrication of modular toilets and main door for passenger coaches in Indian Railways, Bio-Medical applications like artificial limb, external ring fixators etc. Further, she suggested the importance of different types of plastics and more applications in the times to come. She also talked on growth drivers and challenges faced in the usage of plastics in day-to-day activities and various house hold and industrial applications. She concluded her talk by advising M.Sc. students on the future aspects of chemistry in terms of jobs, internships and research and development in this specialized area.
