International Summer School 2017 – Co-designing Better Urban living and Wellbeing empowers students with new skills
A team from Manav Rachna Educational Institutions comprising Dr. Nidhi Didwania (Assistant Professor, MRIU), Meena Kapahi (Associate Professor, MRU) and four students from MRIU, Kritika Sharma (B. Arch.), Garima Ahuja (B. Tech. Biotechnology), Sakshi Taneja (B. Tech. Biotechnology) and Pooja Yadav (M.Sc. Energy and Environment) attended the International Summer School Co-designing Better Urban living and Wellbeing (29th May – 9th June 2017), Lahti University of Applied Sciences, Finland.
Dr. Nidhi Didwania and Meena Kapahi were invited as visiting lecturers. They supervised the student teams in the development projects from local work partners as a part of the International Summer School. The two-week study programme consisted of lectures, presentations, workshops, team work, excursion and writing an article in the Smmer School Publication. Most of the academic programme took place at Fellmanni Campus, Lahti, Finland.
The International Summer School 2017 at LAMK, Finland, started with the introduction of the programme and ice breaking activities ‘getting to know each other’ followed by team building activities. The participant students from different countries like England, Belgium, Russia, Mexico, USA, Finland and India (MRIU) and disciplines were divided into groups and allotted development projects (based on environmental and urban issues) under various themes.
It offered participants a unique opportunity to experience a highly stimulating intellectual environment and to broaden their horizons by attending lectures, workshops and visiting Helsinki and Enonsari Island as a part of team building process. The Summer School offered a space for learning, fostering the exchange of knowledge and experience, and sensitizing participants to appropriate and effective policies, as well as for the development of joint solutions.
