Industrial Visit of Civil Engineering students to The National Council for Cement and Building Materials
Recently, a group of 21 students from the Department of Civil Engineering, FET, MRIIRS led by Dr. Anjali Gupta and Mr. Aftab Alam, went on an industrial visit to The National Council for Cement and Building Materials (NCB). NCB was established in order to promote research and scientific activity in the cement and building materials industry. NCB is the main body for providing the government with the essential support for policy formation and planning activities linked to the cement industry’s growth and development.
Students were given a brief presentation on NCB’s role in the development of the nation’s quality consciousness, followed by trips to various laboratories. Different testing methods such as compressive strength, flexural strength, coefficient of linear expansion, modulus of elasticity and Poisson’s ratio, creep, water permeability, RCPT, accelerated carbonation test, chloride migration tests, sulfate resistance test, deterioration of concrete due to carbonation attack, and many others used in quality checking of cement, concrete, and other building materials were demonstrated to students first-hand at NCB.
Students were also informed about 3D printers that may be used with cement-based or similar materials. The platform helped the students to gain immense knowledge.
