Hotel Management Students celebrated World Tourism Day at Vigyan Bhavan
World Tourism Day is celebrated on September 27 each year. The day aims to foster awareness about the importance of tourism and its social, cultural, political and economic values. This year the theme for World Tourism Day was “Tourism and Jobs: A Better Future for All”. Students and Faculty from Department of Hotel Management went to Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi to attend the World Tourism Day celebrations.
The Chief Guest was Hon’ble Vice President of India, Mr Venkaiah Naidu who conveyed some important issues related to tourism. He mentioned about the tourism becoming more responsible and sustainable now and in times to come. He further stressed on empowering the local communities and how excellence of service is an important measure of productivity.
Zurab Pololikashvili, Secretary-General, UNWTO shared his views on the importance and growth of tourism. He laid importance on the growth of tourism leading to more opportunities for all. The event also had the presence of Mr. Prahalad Singh Patel, Minister of State of Ministry of Tourism, and Tourism Ministers of Member States.
There were sessions by Ana Nance, Photographer, “The Faces that Make Up Tourism” and a panel discussion on Maximizing Tourism’s Potential to Create More and Better Jobs.
The session was a good learning experience for Faculty and students.
