Guest Lecture by Dr. Irfan Bashir
On the World Cancer Day, a guest lecture was organized by the Department of Nutrition & Dietetics, Faculty of Applied Sciences on a very significant topic “Cancer Prevention & Screening” by Dr Irfan Bashir, Oncologist, Batra Hospital, New Delhi.
Dr. Irfan Bashir is one of the distinguished oncologists in Delhi with experience of about 10 years. His broad area of interest includes tumors of cervix, lungs, brain and prostate. He has many publications in reputed national and international journals. He has completed his certification course on treatment of cancer from St. Christopher Hospital, Sydenham London and on ‘Palliative care in Oncology’ at AIIMS, New Delhi.
During his interactive lecture on “Cancer Prevention & Screening”, he explained students about the various types of cancers, their symptoms and preventive measures. He highlighted the association of diet and other lifestyle factors with breast cancer. The main focus of the talk was on pre-screening tests such as PAP smear, mammogram, colonoscopy, sigmoidoscopy, and stool tests (high-sensitivity fecal occult blood tests and stool DNA tests). Overall, the lecture was focused on creating awareness about early prevention and cure.
