Green and Sustainable Chemistry Conference 2019
Department of Chemistry, Manav Rachna University organized Green and Sustainable Chemistry Conference (GSCC 2019) on ‘Focusing on Sustainable Development for a Better Future’. The conference brought together experts, academicians, researchers, students, scientists and engineers, providing them a comprehensive platform to identify key environmental challenges and provide a range of short, medium and long term solutions and alternatives through application of Green Chemistry.
Prof. I.K. Bhat, VC, Manav Rachna University shared that the Education offered at Manav Rachna facilitate learning of students ‘by doing’ in order to create an ecosystem that is creative, innovative and research-oriented. The adopted approach helps to produce leadership and those leaders who are approachable to the system. Such Conferences enable us to achieve Sustainable Development Goals through reliable researched solutions.
Dr. Arpit Sand, Convenor, GSCC 2019 introduced the theme of the conference and shared that the topics chosen are relevant in the context of Science and Technology.
During his plenary lecture on ‘New Strategic Imperatives for Design and Development of Chemicals and Chemical Products’, Prof. A.K. Singh from IIT Bombay accentuated on new strategies of design and development of chemicals and chemical products, clean energy alternatives, and much more.
Another lecture was delievered by Guest of Honour, Prof. MA Quraishi, Chair Professor in King Fahad University of Petroleum and Minerals, Saudi Arabia on Green Corrosion Inhibitors: Past, Present and Future Scenario. He discussed various factors affecting corrosion inhibition, effect of molecular structure on performance of corrosion inhibitors, and role of synergism in corrosion inhibition. This was followed by another lecture by Prof. G.S. Kapoor, ED, R&D Centre, Indian Oil Corporation Limited, University of Delhi on ‘Green Chemistry: Key to reducing waste and improving environment’.
The second day had technical sessions including invited lectures and oral presentations. Invited lectures were delivered by Prof. Sahab Dass, Prof & Head, Dept. of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, Dayalbagh Educational Institute; Prof. M.K. Pandey, Directorate of Extramural Research and Intellectual Property Right, DRDO HQ, New Delhi; Prof. DS Rawat, Department of Chemistry, University of Delhi; Prof. Vivek Polshettiwar, and Prof. D.K. Sharma, Department of Physics, MRU.
The Valedictory Session included keynote lecture by Prof. A.K. Bakshi, Vice Chancellor, PDM University, Bahadurgarh, Haryana on ‘Towards Excellence in Chemistry in the 21st Century: Challenges and Opportunities’. This was followed by the summary of conference by Dr. Arpit Sand, Convenor, GSCC 2019. Awards were presented to the best presenters.
The two-day conference was replete with technical sessions by keynote speakers, along with 61 oral and poster presentations. The conference gave an opportunity to the participants for consultation and deliberation on the themes.
