Fourth-day of FDP on “Recent Trends in Teaching and Research in Applied Science”
The fourth day of Faculty Development Program entitled “Recent Trends in Teaching and Research in Applied Science” organized by Faculty of Applied Sciences, MRIIRS continued with the same vigor as the first three days.
Dr. Sheel Sharma, Professor & Head, Dept. of Foods & Nutrition, Banasthali Vidyapith was the first speaker of morning session. He addressed the looming threat of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) affecting the Indian masses and enunciated the risk factors associated with NCDs. Dr. Kuldeep Sharma, Senior Consultant, Radiation Oncology, Venkateshwar Hospital, New Delhi, spoke on a need for nutritionist and Doctors to work in tandem and not a tangent. He said that nutritionists should feel the pulse of the doctor and understand the case study suggesting proper diet to facilitate ongoing treatment. He added, “It is important for the dietician to understand the gravity of cancer treatment and work in close association with a doctor. Together, they can achieve better and faster recovery for a patient”.
Meanwhile a parallel session was organized for the physiotherapy department wherein Dr. Vikrant Bhardwaj, Director-Physio Revive and a dry needling expert conducted a vibrant, interactive hands-on session on “Dry Needling: Introduction & Beyond”. Dr. Bhardwaj explained the concept with a well thought out presentation and followed it up with an excellent demonstration of the techniques.
Dr. Jolly Roy, Professor, Sports Psychology, Manav Rachna Sports Science Centre, explained various steps of psychological skill training that goes into developing focused minds, exemplary team work and mental skills. She supported her talk with the images of athletes undergoing training in Malaysia where she conducted the training activity as psychological arm.
The last session of the day was conducted by Dr. Ejaz Hussain, Professor & Director, Center for Physiotherapy & Rehabilitation Sciences who emphasized that teaching should not be a profession but an obsession. His talk on sleep science encouraged teachers to take up research on sleep science as an interdisciplinary research study and suggested different facets that could be studied.
