First Week of Department Orientation for freshers of Computer Science and Technology Department
Computer Science & Technology Department, Manav Rachna University, completed its First Week of Department Level Orientation for BTech CSE First-Year Students. The main aim of this orientation was to equip the freshers with basic technical know-how and give them the opportunity to gel with each other through some fun team-building activities.
Session on MS PowerPoint was conducted wherein various features were demoed including Slide Show, Design, Transition, Animation, Hyperlink, etc., which shall enable them to make effective presentations. As Manav Rachna University is a Nodal Centre of Virtual Labs in collaboration with IIT Delhi, a session of Virtual Labs was conducted to demonstrate its application in Engineering and Science Streams. A session on MS Excel was conducted with real-life Data Sets & Analysis Processes to help students to understand its various features and relevance in day-to-day life.
The treasure hunt was also conducted for new entrants wherein students were asked to collect the maximum number of items available at their home out of a given list of items and were asked to solve riddles and identify objects. The event also witnessed holistic participation in Extempore and Best Out of Waste activity. The session on ‘Internship and Placement Opportunities’ was conducted to brief students about the Corporate Resource Centre and its process.
As part of the orientation program, an Alumnus talk was conducted on the topic ‘Journey from an Engineer to an Entrepreneur and a Travel Blogger’ by Mr. Himanshu Sehgal (BTech CSE 2008-12) a.k.a That Guy with a Yellow Plate. He is the man behind “My Yellow Plate”, a full-fledged Instagram account dedicated to foodies across the world. Another Alumnus talk on ‘My journey from College to Social Entrepreneurship’ was taken by Ms. Akshita Sachdeva (BTech CSE 2012-16), Co-founder, Trestle Labs who shared her journey which inspired her to serve and help specially challenged people in our society.
Additionally, the industry Expert talk on ‘Cyber Security in the Era of Digital Transformation’ was conducted by Mr. Harshit Saxena, Principal Consultant, Quick Heal Technologies Limited. Overall, the incoming fresh batch of students was left enthralled by the orientation and were eager to explore the Manav Rachna way of life.
