An expert talk on NMR Spectroscopy was organized by the Department of Chemistry, Manav Rachna University by Dr Ravindra Kumar, SRM, R & D Centre, IOCL, Faridabad. The talk was attended by the students of M.Sc. and B.Sc. (Hons) and faculty members from the Department of Chemistry.

Prof Pradeep Varshney, Dean Applied Sciences; Dr S K Shukla, HOD Chemistry; Dr Arpit Sand and Dr Priti Gupta, Assoc. HOD, Chemistry welcomed the guest and the audience. Dr S K Shukla introduced the guest speaker and talked about the application of NMR spectroscopy in various fields.

Dr Ravindra Kumar, SRM, Indian Oil R&D Centre, Faridabad has over 14 years of experience in Digitalization of analytical labs, Characterization and Structure-Property Correlation of Fuels, Lubricants, polymers, catalysts and biomass by advanced molecular spectroscopy techniques and Thermal techniques.

He initiated his talk by the principle of NMR spectroscopy indicating how the signals are being generated and which part of the electromagnetic spectrum is being used to generate the NMR signals. He explained the use of high magnetic field frequency where the sample molecules are allowed to interact with these magnetic fields.

The lecture covered the elementary steps involved the application parts of NMR including medicinal application like MRI. He discussed the use of sanitisers and their content determination using NMR spectroscopy and generated the use of NMR to predict the complex structure of such compounds. He also made the students and faculty members aware about the procedures which are being followed at IOCL, Faridabad to work on the sanitisers which shall be helpful to demonstrate the application of NMR technique.

The lecture was very informative and beneficial to the students as well as the faculty. At the end Dr S K Shukla, HOD (Chemistry) thanked the speaker for sharing his valuable experience on this important subject.
