Day-3 of the Winter School
The morning session welcomed Professor Madhu Parhar as she spoke on the topic- Design and Development of MOOCs.
Professor Madhu Parhar is a Professor in Distance Education and working in Indira Gandhi National Open University, New Delhi since 1998. She specializes in educational technology, and open and distance education. She has several articles and research papers to her credit in these areas. She has the honour of being consulted by UNESCO on various distance education projects. One of the reputed instructional design scientists in India, Professor Madhu offered many training programmes on IT skills and ICT integrated education.
The speaker explained the concept of MOOCs and how it would benefit students, faculty and the institute. According to her, the main purpose of MOOCs is to change the learning environment through the emergence of the knowledge economy, developments in educational research and next-generation web technologies. She also stressed upon the need for E- learning which would enhance the learning process further.
The second speaker for the day was Professor Sanjiv Mittal who spoke on the topic Designing a Quality Curriculum. Professor Sanjiv Mittal is a senior Professor with a PhD in Service Marketing. He has 34 years of teaching experience and was at the Institute of Management Studies and Research (IMSAR), M.D. University, Rohtak for 16 years. He has been a Coordinator at Entrepreneurship Development Cell of USMS created with the assistance of AICTE since 2006 till date. He stressed on the need for a student-friendly curriculum to develop learning interest in the students. A good quality curriculum enhances the chances of better placement opportunity for students. In order to reach an established standard of excellence, the curriculum design should be on the basis of ICE –which stands for Information, communication and entertainment, LOVE- which stands for learning, opportunity, values and ethics.
He concluded by saying that the curriculum should focus on PEO- Programme educational objectives. PO-Programme objectives and CO- course outcomes. At the end of the session, Certificates were awarded to all participants.
