Culmination of FDP on “Recent Trends in Research and Teaching in Applied Science”
Faculty Development Programme organized by Faculty of Applied Sciences culminated on 6th July 2018. The first session of the day was conducted by Dr. D. Kannungo, Former Additional DG, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare who delivered a talk on Fortification of food. He touched on various initiatives taken by different countries in the West, Africa, Latin America and by the Government of India to fortify salt, vanaspati and staples like wheat flour. He also stressed upon the importance of iron fortification to alleviate anemia.
This was followed by an informative talk by Ms. Suneeti Toteja, Director, FSSAI. Her detailed talk on fortification of food, its need in modern India, its implementation and importance was highlighted. She also elaborated on different Safe and Nutritious Food programmes and its operation in colleges, state level schools and local chakli units.
A session for physiotherapy faculty was also conducted by Dr. Harpreet Singh, Sr. Neurophysiotherapist, AIIMS. He presented the debate between “Right to Education vs Desire to Eeducation” as relevant to the field of physiotherapy. He continued with the basic introduction and excellent explanation of a fairly complex treatment technique of Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation.
Dr. Seema Grover, HoD, Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitaion, Apollo Hospital, Delhi spoke on the evidence based practices and research in clinical settings. Dr. Renuka Pathak, Professor, Department of Nutrition and Dietetics delivered a talk on iron fortification of food with special reference to intricate mechanisms of its absorption.
The five-day program culminated with a cultural program. Dr. Sarita Sachdeva, Dean, FAS and Dean, Research along with Dr. R.K Arora, Registrar, MRIIRS distributed certificates and samples of Tropicana Essentials to all participants much to their pleasure.
