Conference on ‘Healthcare Management: Career Opportunities and Challenges’
Department of Management and Humanities, Manav Rachna University (MRU) organized a Conference on ‘Healthcare Management: Career Opportunities and Challenges’ in association with Cygnus Chain of Hospitals at MRU Campus today. Two panel discussions were organized during the day with esteemed panelists from Manav Rachna University and Cygnus Hospitals. The session was attended by the enthusiastic students, counsellors, and MRU faculty members. Dr. D Batra, Director and Group CEO, Cygnus Chain of Hospitals was the Chief Guest of the day.
Dr. Sanjay Srivastava, Vice Chancellor, MRU expressed his delight for such a conference being organized as this can aware the young minds about the various verticals existing in healthcare sector. Ms. Anita Sharma, Block Education Officer, Ballabhgarh was the special guest of the day and reiterated Manav Rachna’s association with 27 government schools to enhance skill development and provide them opportunities to explore their passion. Dr. D. Batra said that career choice should be based on the interests and competencies of the student.
Prof. Jaideep Singh, Director- Industry Interaction, MRU was the moderator of the first panel discussion on ‘Need for Career Counselling’. Ms. Sanyogita Sharma, Director MRIS and Director, Faculty of Education, MRU; Mr. Suren Shukla, Managing Consultant, OHUM Healthcare Solutions Pvt. Ltd.; and Dr. Rajat Gera, Prof. and HoD, Department of Management and Humanities, MRU were the panellists. Dr. Rajat Gera said that for a successful career, cultural, technical, personality and skill fit is necessary in an organization. ‘There are both medical and non-medical sides to healthcare under which various career opportunities exist’, said Mr. Suren Shukla. Mentioning a range of professional avenues being opening these days, Ms. Sanyogita Sharma emphasized the need to spread awareness in which counsellors can play a very critical role.
Second Panel Discussion was conducted on ‘Career Opportunities and Challenges in Healthcare Industry’ which was moderated by Dr. D Batra. The esteemed panelists of the session were Dr. Sangeeta Batra, Senior Director, Health Systems, Ipas Development Foundation; Dr. Anshumaan Yadav, Business Manager- Business Development, Strategy and Partnerships Medtronic India Pvt. Ltd; Dr. Mahesh Sharma, Group Vice President, Cygnus Medicare; and Dr. Mousumi C Marwah, COO, Cygnus Chain of Hospitals, and Dr Mohan P S Kohli from Public Health sector in Cygnus Hospitals.
Dr. D Batra said that in an objective way to decide a career option, a teacher, a student and a counsellor are involved and have to work hand-in-hand. Each panellist of the discussion represented a different vertical of the healthcare sector. Dr. Anshumaan Yadav talked about career opportunities that exist in the healthcare machinery for which BBA in Healthcare was considered a good choice as a course to study. Association of NGOs with the healthcare sector was discussed by Dr. Sangeeta Batra and how one can form a career path in this. Opportunities in front office department, business development, legal, administration and project management, accounts, marketing & sales, and many more were discussed. Dr. Kohli talked about the public aspect of healthcare in which a majority of professions are connected to healthcare sector. Being a health insurance expert, Dr. Mahesh Sharma highlighted the need of awareness about health insurances and the requirement of manpower in the coming years.
A Psychometric Evaluation Test was also conducted for the students by Corporate Relations and Career Management Centre of Manav Rachna, to help them asses their interests and choose a career option.
The conference would also shed light on the expectations of the Industry and their perspectives. This would also help create awareness and develop understanding of the healthcare industry amongst students and key stakeholders.
