BioTech students interacted with Industry Experts during Induction Programme
As a part of induction programme, first year students of Biotechnology department underwent hands-on session in Bioinformatics Lab. The students were addressed by Dr. Abhilasha Shourie, HoD, Biotechnology. This was followed by the introduction of courses offered and lab facilities available. The details of extra-curricular activities and the clubs in which the students can participate were also discussed with the students. Later on, the students were given hands-on training on various tools used in bioinformatics. Students downloaded protein sequences and viewed the various aspects of protein modelling by Rasmol software. For similarity analysis, the students were familiarized with the NCBI-BLAST suite which is used to annotate novel sequence of an organism.
Dr. Prabhanshu Tripathi, Scientist D, THSTI (Faridabad) informed the students about prospects and diverse opportunities after completing their studies in biotechnology. Emphasis was also given towards the need for research bent of mind with innovative thinking. Dr. Prabhanshu shared his research experiences in the field of Medical Biotechnology and on the problem his team is working into.
At the end of event, Dr. Shilpa, Head, Molecular Biosciences Research Cluster (MRIIC) facilitated the speaker with a sapling. Dr. Prabhanshu Tripathi visited the Molecular Biosciences Research Cluster and appreciated the efforts made by Institute to promote research in this field.
Students were delighted as they had an opportunity to interact with a research scientist who is actually working in the area of dealing with super bug problem.
