‘Be Your Own Wonder Woman’_Session with Alumni
To motivate and encourage the female students of the University, three great women leaders from the Alumni Batch of 2005-2009 shared their experiences that shaped their personality as a person and made them who they are today. Department of Computer Science and Technology, Manav Rachna University, Faridabad felt obliged to organize this session exclusively for the female students.
The session was hosted by other Alumni of the same batch, Mr. AJ Gauravdeep, who was the one to coordinate with the speakers and help establish the session. The session was further led by three speakers who shared their personal stories and created a safe space for the audience to interact with them on a personal level. Ms. Tanya Gurwara commenced the session with her personal story, as to how from being a small-town girl, she climbed the stairs of success in the global market. Followed by the struggles she faced during her MBA program and how she overcame the bumps in the road by embracing the failures, was really overwhelming. The most important lesson the audience took back from her story was “Failures are just the beginning of a new journey”. Her emphasis on how women should not be obligated to do conventional things and should not be scared to take risks, motivated the audience and made them introspect.
The second speaker, Ms. Neera Goyal who is now successfully settled in New Zealand, was once a shy and quiet person. Her journey from being an introvert to establishing herself in the industry was highly inspirational. She talked about how a personality change and shift take place from moving out of the comfort zone and by being comfortable in the uncomfortable, threw light on how important it is to chase your dreams.
The third and the last speaker of the session Ms. Shweta Rohilla who is now a Sr. Cloud Architect at Microsoft, USA, shook us all with the risks and steps she took in her journey of life to reach where she is today. A very important lesson that stuck with the audience was her highlighting the fact that it is unethical to look down upon someone because of their poor fluency in English. She also mentioned the importance of embracing bilingualism and giving yourself credit for the achievements and how that contributes to the personal growth of a person. Moreover, she also focussed on capitalizing one’s strengths and working on the weaknesses, by giving an example from her own personal experience. The session ended by opening the platform for the audience to ask questions and interact.
Overall, the diversity of the three speakers made the session much more interesting and captivating. It was highly insightful for the audience and even gave the alumni a chance to interact with their former professors. By organizing a session only for the female students, we successfully have marked the beginning of a new chapter of growth.
