Clan Forest Rhinos is continuously doing the work for its basic aim which is to protect the forests and wildlife. Since its inception, clan has taken various initiatives like tree plantation, solid waste management, E-Waste collection and their disposal, Dragon Fly count and their preservation etc.

In this continuum Dr. Kalpna Varshney (Clan Chief Forest Rhinos) and Dr. Shagufta Jabin (Forest Rhinos) from Department of Chemistry and 30 students of Forest Rhinos, MRIIRS went to attend the 4th conference on the Global Snow Leopard and Ecosystem Protection Program (GSLEP) on October 23, 2019. The clan was invited by NGO #CMS Vatavaran.

The conference was aimed to celebrate the Snow Leopard Day and their protection. The conference was organized by Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF) in association with UNDP. The inaugural session was started with the keynote address by Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Mr. Prakash Javadekar. He also launched the first-ever national protocol for snow leopard population assessment in India.

This is for the first time that India is hosting the GSLEP meet, under the aegis of Ministry of environment, forest and climate change (MoEF).

Ministers from 9 countries India, Nepal, Mangolia, Kajakistan, Kyrgyzstan, Costa re ca, Bhutan, Russia and Ujbekistan were present on the dais and shared their views and the methods for the protection of snow leopard and forests.

Shri Prakash Javadekar quoted that a protocol has been decided among the member countries to be the roadmap for enumeration of snow leopards. He added that once the enumeration is complete the plan is to double the population of snow leopards in the world.
