CENTRE of EXCELLENCE ON ALTERNATIVE DISPUTE RESOLUTION

The Centre of Excellence on Alternative Dispute Resolution (CADR) is a functional unit within the Faculty of Law at Manav Rachna University, Faridabad. It was inaugurated by the Union Law Minister, Shri Ravi Shankar Prasad on 7th September 2019. The Centre’s mission is to conduct and promote research in the field of alternative dispute resolution methods, as well as, to generate and disseminate information. The Centre carries out research and promotes ADR skill development through short-term courses among students pursuing law. It also collaborates through tie-ups and professional linkages with industry, professionals, and government agencies, within and outside India.

Sessions by distinguished personalities at CADR

Ever since its establishment, the CADR has brushed upon the practical importance of ADR mechanisms with the help of Physical and Online (Webinars) Training Sessions in light of socio-legal conundrums arising from the relationship between conventional litigation, the pendency of cases, and India’s static justice enforcement structures. Distinguished personalities like Honourable Justice Ms. Indu Malhotra, Justice Madan Lokur, Mr. Abhinav Bhushan (South Asia Director, International Chamber of Commerce Arbitration & ADR), and Dr. Gabrielle Kauffman-Kohler (President, International Council for Commercial Arbitration) have enlightened the students and other trainees with their insightful thoughts and experiences about various topics like “Enforcement of Foreign Arbitral Awards: Recent Developments”, “Investor State Dispute Settlement: Thesis, Anti-Thesis and Possible Synthesis”, “Mediation as a Tool for Conflict Management”, “Cross Border Insolvency: Should India adopt the UNCITRAL Model Law?”, and many more.

Construction Arbitration Series to boost internship opportunities

Apart from the aforementioned webinars, the Centre also launched the Construction Arbitration Series. The CADR invites interns for full-time and part-time positions on a rolling basis to help with the Centre’s activities. Students in their fourth and fifth years of a five-year law program, as well as, students in their second and third years of a three-year law program, are eligible to apply for the internship.
