Manav Rachna University conferred with ‘Disaster Risk Reduction Award’ by Hon’ble
Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy
Manav Rachna University has been conferred with the WCDM DRR Award for the work carried
out by the Centre for Peace and Sustainability, MRU during the COVID 19 pandemic for
mitigating its impact.
The award was presented by Shri G. Kishan Reddy – Hon’ble Union Minister of Tourism,
Culture and Development of North Eastern Region of India, GoI. Prof. (Dr.) I. K. Bhat – Vice
Chancellor, MRU and Prof. (Dr.) D.S.Sengar – Pro VC, MRU, received the award on behalf of
the University at a function held in India International Centre (IIC).
The Manav Rachna Centre for Peace and Sustainability under the able mentoring of Chairman
Padma Vibhushan Dr. Karan Singh is on the path of peace and sustainability by putting in efforts
for prevention and management of disasters that impact the society.
The Centre for Peace and Sustainability during the tough times of pandemic developed several
structured and practice oriented extra-curricular programmes for the youth to inculcate values
and promote indulgence in art and culture related pursuits to develop a peaceful mind to face the
disaster.
Besides this, the centre emphasizes on peace and sustainability, develops life skills among
students, provides awareness and training programmes for many SDGs including environmental
consciousness, culture of peace and harmony to be peace champions to support community
during pandemic and post pandemic period.
It helps to develop the attitude towards sustainability amongst students through inter-university
forums and competitions to create awareness among people in societies to avoid similar
disasters. Yoga & Meditation training sessions were also organized during this period.
Manav Rachna University also designed and delivered a course on Peace and Sustainability for
the graduates of the University as well as for students at other Universities.
The Centre for Peace & Sustainability, MRU is in a constant pursuit of serving the society and
teaching the value of social welfare services to our younger generations. Getting recognized for
the efforts towards the betterment of the society further motivates the students and faculty to
keep working in the right direction.
